‘95,000 Nigerian pilgrims to participate in Hajj’

Ninety-five thousand pilgrims from Nigeria are expected to perform the Hajj, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, the Chairman, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), said.

Bello said during the inauguration of the 15-member Federal Government delegation for the pilgrimage in Abuja on Monday that 85,000 would come from the Federal Government and 10,000 from the private sector.

Bello assured the delegation of NAHCON’s support to ensure a hitch-free Hajj.

Inaugurating the delegation, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, said the pilgrimage would commence on Oct. 24.

Ahmed urged the delegation to advise NAHCON using their offices, links and wide experiences to assist it to achieve maximum success in its operations.

Ahmed said the delegation would supervise the transportation of pilgrims from departure centres and visit pilgrims in their various accommodations in Mecca, Medinah, Mina and Arafat.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that President Umaru Yar’Adua on Friday in Abuja approved the appointment of Sen. Kanti Bello as the Amirul Hajj.
