Shaikh Adel Al-Kalbani the former Imam of Holy Mosque in Makka refused to accept that his Infidel statement against Shia were the reason for excluding him from Imam position in Holy Mosque in Makka this year.
UPI reported that Al-Kalbani said " Head of Haramain Affairs did not appoint me this year for Imam position and there is no genuine reason of dispute over certain issue."
Al-Kalbani added " Last year my appointment came from the officials and atop of them is King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz."
Al-Kalbani commented on his infidel statement against Shia: " Shia religious leaders preceded us in using the term «infidelity» when they called the two Nobel persons after the Prophet and I mean Abu Baker and OMar. And thus, why do we shy out and do not publicly state our position against them."
Al-Kalbani said that he did not receive any comments from high officials in the State against his infidel statement toward Shia.
In the evening of Monday, May 4th, 2009, the BBC Arabic Channel broadcasted a live interview with Adel AlKalbani, the Imam of the Holy Mosque in Makkah, in which he explicitly called Shiite Muslims as infidels because of not following the Sunni trend. He did not clear himself from religious intolerance and extremism.
Al-Kalbani denied that he is related to King Khalid decedents from birth. He said that this is a rumor and he is used to hear it from time to time.
