Shia Members of Academic Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria Protest for the Release of Jailed brothers.
The Members of Academic Forum, a wing of the Islamic Movement which comprises members of the Movement in Universities and other higher Institutions of Learning across the Country, held a peaceful matching in Abuja the capital of Nigeria demanding the release of jailed members of the Movement who are currently in various prisons across the country on Monday the 27th of July 2009.
The students who came out in large number protested the illegal detention of the Sokoto Members of the Movement and called on the Nigerian Government to effect their release.
During the peaceful procession the students, comprising of males and females were carrying pictures of destructions and those killed during the incidence in Sokoto. They also carried placards with different inscriptions on them during the peaceful matching which ended at Federal House of Assembly building.
Members of the Islamic Movement in Sokoto have suffered series of persecutions since the killing of Umar Danmaishiyya by yet unidentified assassins who are believed to be sponsored by Wammako in 2007; they were subjected to all forms of aggressions by the Sokoto state Government which instigated hoodlums against them. 4 members were killed at the height of the government sponsored carnage and landed properties worth millions of Naira belonging to Members of the Movement in the state were destroyed.
It Could be recalled that the persecuted members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria in Sokoto were jailed 11 year prison term by by the Magistrate Court 11 of Sokoto and have been dispersed to various prisons across the country in 2007.
109 of the 130 serving jail terms, including minors have been dispersed to Owerri, Enugu, Calabar, Nasarawa, Kuje, Jos, Edo, Minna, Umwahia, Abakalaki, Gboko, Nsuka, Makurdi and Wukari prisons.
