DEATH OF AN ALIM IS THE DEATH OF THE WORLD

The Africa Federation has learnt with profound grief the sad news of the death of His Eminence Ayatullah Mohammed Taqi Behjat (ra) who passed of heart problems away in Qum, Iran on Sunday 17th May 2009, 21st Jamadi-ul-Awwal 1430 at the age of 96.

Ayatollah Mohammad Taqi Behjat was born into a religious and pious family in 1915 in the city of Fuman, located in northern Iran. After completing his primary education, he began his religious studies and moved to Karbala at the age of 14. Four years later, he moved to the renowned Islamic seminary of Najaf where he studied under the greatest Shia scholars of his time including: Grand Ayatollah Abu’l Hasan Isfahani, Grand Ayatollah Mirza Naeeni and Grand Ayatollah Mirza Muhammad Taqi Shirazi amongst others. After spending more than a decade in the seminary of Najaf, he migrated to the Holy City of Qum and continued his studies under Grand Ayatollah Muhammad Husayn Burujordi.

The late Ayatollah was renowned for his academic brilliance, humility, and lofty spiritual status. For many years now, he had been an unparalleled source of knowledge and piety for the Islamic seminary in Qum and its students; teaching lessons at the highest level for the past 40 years and thereby training scholars of the finest calibre for future generations.

In addition to his expertise and being a great ‘Arif (spiritual mystic), the late Ayatollah Behjat was a strong supporter of the political and social struggle led by Imam Khomeini against oppression and corruption in Iran.

The Africa Federation extends its heartfelt condolences to our 12th Imam (.A.F), our Marja-e-Taqleed and all Ulamas, the family of the Marhum and the Shia Community at large on this bereavement.

We pray to Allah (s.w.t.) to grant Marhum maghferat and place his soul in the proximity of Chaharda Masumeen (a.s.), grant his family and the Shia Ummah solace to sustain this loss and for the safety and long life of our Ulemas.

Jamaats are requested to hold Quran Khani and majlis for the maghferat of the Marhum.
