Egerton University students attend Discover Islam seminar – Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya

Students from Egerton University attended a seminar and exhibition on 14 March 2009.

A total of 45 students from the Departments of Philosophy, History and Religion from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences attended. 

The participants had the opportunity to view the exhibition of posters on the Discover Islam Series and the seminar began with the recitation of the Holy Quran. 

Presentations were made by Sheikh Fazle Abbas, Br. Haji Juma and Mrs. Ummi Kulthum. 

Topics covered during the seminar were:
Introduction to Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya
Islam: Introduction and basic teachings
Islam and Gender equality
Status of Women in Islam
Meaning of Jihad
Islamophobia

The floor was then opened for an interactive question and answer session.  The students actively participated, asking several questions and commenting on topics such as Jihad, peace in Islam, and dress code for Muslim ladies. 

Some students commented:

‘The teachings have answered a lot of questions I had on my mind’

‘I have been attracted to the Muslim way of life’
