Grand Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani: Arbaeen symbolizes rejection of tyranny

A senior Iranian cleric described the annual Arbaeen pilgrimage as a symbol of rejection of tyranny and a display of honoring human dignity and freedom.

AhlulBayt News Agency: A senior Iranian cleric described the annual Arbaeen pilgrimage as a symbol of rejection of tyranny and a display of honoring human dignity and freedom.

Grand Ayatollah Hossein Nouri Hamedani made the remark in a message to the closing ceremony of the 10th Arbaeen International Award, held in Tehran on Wednesday morning.

The participation of millions of devoted pilgrims from various parts of the world in the Arbaeen procession every year carries important messages for the global community, he said.

The unparalleled display of the pilgrimage to the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) on Arbaeen is a brilliant manifestation of the allure of Wilayat (leadership of the Infallibles) that unfolds before the eyes of the world, he stated.

“On one hand, the Arbaeen gathering symbolizes a rejection of tyranny and serves as a symbol of protest against oppressive regimes, while on the other hand, it upholds the Husseini principles, including the preservation of dignity, honor, and human freedom. Furthermore, this grand assembly is a manifestation of unity among the Islamic community and resistance against the oppressors, whose significance is felt more than ever today.”

Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani added that enemies and adversaries have always tried to keep the wide dimensions of the Arbaeen pilgrimage hidden in order to diminish its greatness.

“However, the radiance of this divine light has only increased,” he said, citing Verse 8 of the Quran’s Surah As-Saff: “They seek to extinguish the Light of Allah with their mouths; but Allah will complete His Light, much as the unbelievers dislike it.”

The senior cleric went on to say that protecting the Arbaeen event is a duty for everyone, and undoubtedly, efforts in this direction will be pleasing to God and will earn the favor of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).

Inviting pilgrims, scholars, artists, and writers from various nationalities and religions to explore the dimensions and mysteries of this spiritual journey is an effective step in promoting the teachings of Imam Hussein (AS), he stated.

“God willing, it will attract the attention of the Imam of the Age (may God hasten his reappearance). I pray for the success of the organizers of this event (Arbaeen International Award) and for God to reward all participants, laureates, and guests,” he concluded.

Arbaeen is a religious event observed by Shia Muslims on the fortieth day after the Day of Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the third Shia imam.

It is one of the largest annual pilgrimages in the world, with millions of Shia Muslims walking to Karbala from various cities in Iraq and neighboring countries.
