Two retail outlets at Malaysian University closed after sold non-halal sandwich packs

Two retail outlets at the University Malaya (UM) were closed after reports that they have sold non-halal sandwich packs.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Two retail outlets at the University Malaya (UM) were closed after reports that they have sold non-halal sandwich packs.

The UM has immediately closed down the two 24-hour convenience outlets on its campus after they were suspected of selling non-halal sandwich packs.

UM in a statement said the move was made following concerns over the product’s halal labelling and to ensure investigations could proceed without interference.

"It was found that the sandwich product packs labelled 'ham and cheese sandwich' and the usage of halal logo on the product in the stores were doubtful.

"As such the premises will be closed until further notice," Sinar Harian quoted UM as saying in a statement on Saturday (Jan 11).

The university said it is committed to ensuring products sold on campus are from suppliers who comply with laws, standards, and procedural rules.
