Today’s Most Important Issue; the Unity of the Islamic Ummah: Ayatollah Ramazani

The Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly emphasized, “The unity of the Islamic Ummah is the most critical issue today. In achieving this unity, distinctions between Shiite and Sunni are no longer relevant, and all Muslims and scholars of the Islamic Ummah must contribute to this endeavor.”

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Upon his arrival in Bangladesh, Ayatollah Reza Ramazani, in an interview with the country’s media, highlighted the potential for expanding the Persian language in Bangladesh. “The capacity for developing the Persian language exists in this country due to the people’s interest in it. We should not limit ourselves to teaching Persian merely as an academic subject in universities. We are ready to expand the Persian language in Bangladesh,” he remarked.

In this regard, Ayatollah Ramazani added, “Persian language education in Bangladesh has a long-standing history. One of the significant missions of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s cultural office in Bangladesh is to enhance cultural interactions between the two countries. There is potential to expand collaborations in Persian language education, provided that the necessary groundwork is prepared in Bangladesh’s universities and academic environments. The Islamic Republic is ready to develop Persian language instruction in various regions, tailored to their capacities.”

The Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly elaborated, “Iran is recognized as one of the world’s major cultural nations, and one of the factors that contributed to this status is the country’s scientific advancement. Another key factor is the renewed understanding of religion in Islamic Iran and the belief that religion can play a role in every aspect of human life, including intellectual, moral, and social-political interactions. This perspective must be given due attention.”

The necessity of using virtual space

Ayatollah Ramazani underscored the necessity of utilizing modern media tools in today’s world, stating, “We must transition to the virtual space and take the virtual world seriously. Today, over five billion people exist in this virtual space. Therefore, we must employ the tools and resources of the digital world. Concepts like the metaverse and artificial intelligence have the potential to revolutionize media, and everyone should participate in this field.”

“Given Iran’s advancements in the media sector, one area of interaction between Iran and Bangladesh could be this digital media sphere. The Islamic Republic is prepared for such collaborations. Officials from both countries need to pursue these interactions and establish the required foundations to strengthen relations in digital and media spaces between Iran and Bangladesh,” he continued.

Unity of the Islamic Ummah: A Strategic Necessity

The Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly reiterated that the unity of the Islamic Ummah is the most pressing issue today, emphasizing, “In striving for unity among the Islamic Ummah, distinctions between Shiite and Sunni are irrelevant. All Muslims and scholars must play their role in fostering this unity. I firmly believe that the most important strategy is the unity of the Islamic Ummah. We must emphasize that Shiite and Sunni Muslims share common beliefs in fundamental principles such as monotheism, the prophethood of Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h), and the Day of Judgment. Differences in these areas are trivial. They also share similarities in practical aspects, including prayer, fasting, zakat, Hajj, and enjoining good. We must not confuse primary issues with secondary ones.”

At the end of his speech, he said, “Our unity with Sunnis is strategic, not a tactical decision. It is not a method we have chosen today simply because it benefits us. Muslims must stand together to achieve the necessary growth in all dimensions and to reclaim their position as a hub of sciences, culture, and literature.”
