AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Iranian President said in a joint press conference with the Iraqi Prime Minister that Iran and Iraq have strengthened their partnership by reaffirming their commitment to combat terrorism and enhance economic cooperation, including the Shalamcheh-Basra railway project.
Massoud Pezeshkian, President of Iran, said in a press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Al-Sudani: The threat of terrorism and its growth were among our topics today. In this meeting, the comprehensive cooperation plan of the two countries and the comprehensive implementation of the security agreement were once again agreed upon. Regarding the security of economic and trade cooperation, good plans were discussed and it was agreed that legislation is on the way to realizing the construction of the Shalamcheh-Basra railway project, which Mr. Al-Sudani has also paid special attention to implementing, he added.
Pezeshkian said: The two sides emphasized the importance of implementing documents and quickly removing existing obstacles.
The Iranian President added: Developing relations in the field of customs and the presence of Iranian and Iraqi companies in joint investment projects, facilitating road transport and increasing transit transport of goods and passengers, strengthening border markets, and solving the problems of the private sectors were among the topics of my discussion with the Iraqi delegation, which we hope that with the efforts of the parties, we will see its results in developing trade between the two countries.
Pezeshkian thanked the Iraqi government and people for their worthy hospitality to Iranian pilgrims over the past years.
The Iranian President emphasized that developing cooperation with Iraq is a priority of our foreign policy, and we consider the security and well-being of the Iraqi people to be part of our security, and we will spare no effort in this direction.
