AhlulBayt News Agency: The municipality of Khan Yunis, in southern Gaza Strip, announced the almost complete suspension of water, sanitation and waste disposal services, with only 40% of services provided due to near depletion of diesel stocks.
The municipality’s emergency committee said, in a statement on Tuesday, that the diesel stock needed to operate water pumps, sewage stations, and waste collection and disposal mechanisms, is about to run out as a result of the impossibility and irregularity of bringing in the required diesel from partner institutions to operate service facilities normally within applicable emergency system.
The statement pointed to the ongoing attempts by the municipality of Khan Yunis to secure the minimum of basic services, in light of the difficult circumstances under the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, which left massive destruction of civil infrastructure.
The war-torn Strip is currently suffering from a suffocating water crisis due to power outages, and inability to operate electricity generators due to fuel depletion.
Hundreds of water and sewage facilities in Gaza have been damaged or completely destroyed since the Israeli occupation began its genocidal war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023.
