28k foreign nationals visit Astan Quds Razavi’s museums in 9 months

Some 28 thousand and 784 non-Iranian pilgrims and tourists have visited museums of Imam Reza holy shrine in Mashhad since mid-March 2024, says Abdolhossein Malek Jafarian, head of Treasury of Astan Quds Razavi’s Museums.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Some 28 thousand and 784 non-Iranian pilgrims and tourists have visited museums of Imam Reza holy shrine in Mashhad since mid-March 2024, says Abdolhossein Malek Jafarian, head of Treasury of Astan Quds Razavi’s Museums.

“These non-Iranian pilgrims and foreign tourists were from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Turkey, Indonesia, China, as well as some European countries. Museum of history of the holy shrine and museum of Quran and gifts from the Supreme Leader have been among the most popular museums for non-Iranian visitors,” Malek Jafarian stated.

He added: “Since most of these non-Iranian visitors are Muslim, they have a special enthusiasm for visiting museum of the history of the holy shrine; this museum includes exhibits that were once donated by devotees and pilgrims of Imam Reza (AS)”.

Head of Treasury of Astan Quds Razavi’s Museums stressed: “Quran Museum is popular among many foreign tourists because it showcases very valuable handwritten copies of the holy Quran, ranging from the first Hijra century to the present day”.

According to him, “Museum of gifts from the Supreme Leader is notable for the variety of items donated by domestic figures and leaders from various foreign countries, as well as showcasing the art and handicrafts of different nations”.

Elsewhere, Adel Motawari Hossein, head of office of evaluation, documentation, and presentation of works at shrine’s museums, referred to the past and future activities of the shrine’s museums, saying: “Drafting texts for making agreements and setting up memorandums of understanding to establish interactions and cooperation with museums of the Eastern Russia and the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, as well as drafting text for a memorandum for collaboration and signing a contract with the National Museum of Moscow, to open a section for Iranian and Razavi artifacts there are among steps taken by Razavi museums”.

Motawari pointed to future programs of the office, saying: “Our future programs include translating Persian page introducing Astan Quds Razavi’s Museums into living languages on Wikipedia, creating models of selected works for use in exhibitions abroad, and translating books related to introduction of Astan Quds Razavi Museum”.
