Ibrahimi Mosque director assaulted, denied medical aid by occupation forces

Israeli occupation forces assaulted Sheikh Moataz Abu Sneineh, director of the Ibrahimi Mosque, at a military checkpoint in al-Khalil, leaving him injured and denying him medical aid.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Israeli occupation forces assaulted Sheikh Moataz Abu Sneineh, director of the Ibrahimi Mosque, at a military checkpoint in al-Khalil, leaving him injured and denying him medical aid.

Abu Sneineh told reporters that Israeli occupation soldiers stopped him at the inspection gates as he was heading to his workplace in the mosque on Tuesday and demanded his identity card and ordered him to remove his clothes so he could be searched.

He added that he refused to be strip searched in public, so five soldiers took him to a closed room and severely beat and verbally abused him.

Abu Sneineh explained that the soldiers allowed him to enter the mosque after he was beaten, but prevented ambulance crews from entering the area to provide him treatment.

He added that the attack is unprecedented, noting that “he has been working in the mosque for more than ten years and enters it daily, and the soldiers know him well.

Abu Sneineh said the occupation forces have escalated their violations against the mosque and worshippers since 7 October 2023, closing all the entrances to the mosque with the exception of one, amid tight security measures and daily and humiliating searches of Muslim worshippers.

“This year, the Israeli occupation closed the Ibrahimi Mosque for 13 days to Muslim worshippers, while it was completely opened to settlers, in violation of the Hebron Agreement.
