AhlulBayt News Agency: An international relations expert said: Regardless of which government rules Syria, the US priority is to maintain the security of Israel, and they do not want a government that threatens the security of this regime. Therefore, the United States never wants to form a strong government in Syria.
Jafar Qannadbashi an international relations expert, referring to the diplomatic and political visits of European and American officials to Syria and meeting with "Ahmad al-Shara" known as "Abu Muhammad al-Jolani", the leader of Tahrir al-Sham, said: The leaders and officials of European and American countries were aware of the actions of opposition groups and their preparation in terms of finance and military before the fall of Bashar al-Assad, and the drone training of these groups in Ukraine, the transfer of Uzbek forces to Idlib was definitely done with the coordination and green light of the United States and the knowledge of Israel and some European countries.
The international relations expert added: “Currently, we are witnessing a new phase of consultations between European countries, the United States, and other regional and global powers with Syria and its new leaders. These consultations aim to achieve two main objectives: understanding the process of political changes and pursuing these countries’ interests in Syria.”
Qannadbashi emphasized: On the surface, Syria appears to be moving towards state-building, but at the same time, many countries are concerned about the future of this country and the potential for a civil war amid its political transition. They are doubtful about the formation of a strong democratic government in Syria, as the US, the UK, and certain other European countries are pursuing their own interests in the region. Additionally, due to their interests and Israel’s security, they do not want a strong democratic government to take shape in Syria.”
This regional affairs expert noted: The UK and the US have long sought to exacerbate and expand ethnic and sectarian divisions in West Asia. Furthermore, any government in Syria must safeguard the process of oil and gas transfer to the Western world. Therefore, two key issues—the security of Israel and the continuity of oil and gas transfer to the West—must be guaranteed by Syria’s future government. Otherwise, the US and Europe will not support Syrian opposition groups under any pretext.
He added: All political visits, diplomatic actions, propaganda supporting opposition groups and individuals like Jolani, as well as the use of economic, political, and cultural tools, are aimed at ensuring that European and American interests and objectives are secured in the future. Among these, their immediate goal is to establish legitimacy for Jolani as a political figure.”
He concluded: For now, they are focused on shaping the identity and legitimizing the Syrian opposition’s terrorist leader, as the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s government by terrorist forces would appear illegitimate and unjust. Therefore, they are making every effort to present Jolani as a legitimate figure.
