AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A Bahraini activist and author said while the people in the Gaza Strip are suffering under the genocidal war, politicians, especially Western leaders, remain indifferent to the atrocities.
Saeed al-Shahabi in an article elaborated on the ongoing Israeli crimes in the Gaza Strip. Here are excerpts from his article:
There has been much discussion about the use of the term ‘genocide’ in relation to the Israeli regime’s actions against Gaza. What does genocide mean in the context of international law? And what exactly are the Israeli forces committing in the occupied territories?
It is clear that the Palestinian victims have neither the opportunity nor the patience to discuss these terms. They are fighting for their lives, struggling against death from bombings or deadly weapons.
As winter approaches, living outdoors or in tents has become a significant challenge for the displaced individuals whose homes have been destroyed by the bombings of the Israeli regime. The lack of medical supplies and treatment has compounded the suffering of the Palestinian refugees to the point that some have lost hope of continuing to live.
These scenes are broadcast daily on television, but their repetition has turned them into ordinary images that no longer evoke strong emotions. As a result, the relentless bombings continue, and the occupying Israeli forces see no reason to halt these actions!
Despite the efforts of humanitarian aid organizations, whose employees are risking their lives to help those in need in Palestine, the world is becoming increasingly immoral and inhumane.
Since the beginning of this year, more than 160 aid workers engaged in charitable activities in Palestine have lost their lives, and it is evident that the occupying forces are consistently targeting humanitarian staff.
So far, over 45,000 people in Gaza have been killed in the daily bombings by the Israeli regime's fighter jets, with more than three times that number injured during this period, many of whom have been deprived of their normal lives. Despite international calls to cease hostilities, Israel continues to refuse to halt its operations and insists on continuing the bombings.
Many believe that the events in Gaza align with the legal definition of genocide, and there are many factors that encourage this regime toward genocidal actions. First, bombings have become a routine occurrence, hardening hearts and numbing the emotions of many people.
Second, Western media, which are supposed to play a role in awakening the conscience of world leaders, avoid providing an accurate and realistic description of what is happening in Gaza.
Third, the indifference of other countries to the suffering of the Palestinian people has drawn significant criticism toward the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the United Nations for their lack of control over these aggressions. Some Arab countries have even normalized relations with the Israeli regime.
Fourth, Israeli officials believe that their military capabilities are so advanced that they can continue their aggression against Gaza to achieve their goals. Netanyahu has also stated that his aim is to eliminate Palestinian and Lebanese resistance groups, but despite the extensive bombings and ongoing assassinations of resistance leaders, this goal has not yet been achieved.
Israel has denied all allegations of genocide against the Palestinians, but this has not changed the regime’s methods of dealing with the Palestinian people. Airstrikes continue unabated, putting the lives of around 50 Palestinians, including women and children, at risk every day.
Scenes of the slaughter of women and children, the destruction of buildings, schools, and hospitals have incited disgust and anger among people around the world. The International Court is expected to play a significant role in preventing this regime’s aggression and crimes against humanity, yet the reality is different. Every day, we witness scenes that no longer stir the sentiments of humanity, especially those of politicians who consider these images as necessary collateral damage of war.
We hope that the conscience of humanity awakens from its slumber and that on the anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ, Western leaders will emulate his example of compassionate, cost-free assistance. May we strive for a world free from war and bloodshed, where people live in greater safety and stability, allowing Palestinians—Muslims, Christians, and Jews alike—to live in peace. After several decades of tension, war, bloodshed, and occupation, may tranquility and stability return to this land.
