Iranian cleric stresses presence of women scholars in Quranic affairs management

An Iranian cleric underlined the need for benefiting from the knowledge and skills of women Quran researchers in the management of Quranic affairs.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): An Iranian cleric underlined the need for benefiting from the knowledge and skills of women Quran researchers in the management of Quranic affairs.

Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Abdollahian, who is among the initiators of the annual congress of honoring women Quran researchers in Iran, said men dominate the decision-making and management spheres in various Quranic fields in the country.

This trend should be reconsidered as women have great potential in these fields that should be tapped, he stated.

He made the remarks ahead of the 16th edition of the women Quran researchers international congress, slated to be held at Tehran’s Milad Tower on Thursday, December 26.

The congress is annually held in Iran with Quranic, religious, cultural and political officials in attendance.

It features honoring women preachers and Quran activists.

The foundation and philosophy behind organizing such a congress is to honor women who study the Quran across all areas and disciplines related to the divine word, Hojat-ol-Islam Abdollahian told IQNA.

It encompasses a wide range of research, educational, developmental, and artistic topics related to the Quran, he said.

When a researcher and active figure in Quranic studies is introduced along with their works at this event, it not only encourages and motivates them personally but also creates opportunities for the audience to become more familiar with the projects they are working on, the cleric said, adding, “This, in turn, significantly enhances the visibility of the fields in which they have been active, which may have remained largely unknown until now.”

He pointed to the extensive involvement of women in Quranic fields and said that in the early editions of the congress, there were concerns about whether there were truly enough women researchers and active participants in the Quranic domain to continue this event in the future.

“Today, as we approach the 16th edition and have recognized over 200 women researchers who study and promote the Quran, we must acknowledge that countless women in our community are engaged in this field. We can celebrate their dedicated efforts to elevate Quranic culture by holding future editions of this congress.”
