AhlulBayt News Agency: The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) intends to resume the educational process for its students in the Gaza Strip on the internet, starting from the beginning of 2025, for the first time since October 7, 2023.
The educational plan received the approval of the General Presidency of UNRWA – Amman, the General Administration of Education – Gaza, and the Ministry of Education – Ramallah.
The plan mainly aims to restore children’s right to education, by completing the academic year 2023-2024, and enrolling in the 2024-2025 academic year.
The UNRWA plan includes three educational stages. The first will be conducted in the period between January 1 and March 31, 2025, and will only be confined to the students registered in the EMEIS program for the academic year 2023-2024.
As for the second stage, it will last from April 15 to July 15, 2025, and will include students who passed the first stage and those who could not join the program in the first stage.
Regarding educational materials, the UNRWA’s plan shows that education will depend on self-learning cards similar to those used during the E-learning program designed for the Corona pandemic, and will be distributed later to students through shelter centers as well as delegates and mayors among others.
Early September, the UNRWA Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, revealed on X that more than 70% of the agency’s schools in Gaza have been completely destroyed or partially damaged, and the majority of them have become packed with hundreds of thousands of displaced families and cannot be used for education.
