AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A community fridge aimed at supporting those in need has been launched at the JTI Southfield Square Masjid in Bradford’s Manningham area.
Open every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the fridge is stocked with essentials such as milk, bread, butter, cereals, biscuits, fruit, vegetables, and tinned goods, providing crucial assistance to struggling families.
Volunteers transformed a space in the mosque’s basement into a welcoming and functional hub for the initiative, which comes as households across the region face mounting pressures from rising living costs.
Syed Ahsan Shah, a director at the mosque, underscored the significance of the project.
“At JTI, we strive to serve the community at large as the message of our founder and pioneer, Pir Syed Maroof, who recently passed away in the summer, was to unify all communities. Having a food bank in the centre of Manningham will be a life-saver during turbulent times.”
The project is overseen by Mohammed Wasim, who highlighted its inclusivity.
“The JTI community fridge is open to all, regardless of background. We hope the community fridge will serve as a lifeline for many, and we aim to ensure nobody in the area sleeps hungry,” he said.
The mosque has called for donations and support from the wider community to keep the fridge stocked and operational, ensuring it continues to meet the needs of vulnerable individuals.
