Gaza ceasefire imminent: Hamas source

An informed Hamas source said a ceasefire agreement is close in Gaza.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): An informed Hamas source said a ceasefire agreement is close in Gaza.

The source said the ceasefire agreement includes the exchange of prisoners, a return of women and children to northern Gaza and handing over the Rafah Border Crossing to the Palestinian Authority (PA).

According to the agreement, Israeli forces will leave centers of cities but not the entire Palestinian enclave, he said, noting that other measures, including the return of men, will take place in stages based on an agreed mechanism.

In the first stage, lasting for 45 to 60 days, Hamas will release some 30 Israeli captives or bodies of those who have died in captivity in exchange for the release of an unspecified number of Palestinian prisoners, including tens of prisoners sentenced to life in jail by the Israeli regime, the source said.

It is predicted that implementation of the agreement will begin by the end of this week, he stated.

Most of the issues have been resolved, and only a few minor issues remain, he added.

Earlier on Tuesday, Hamas said that it believes ceasefire talks have been productive enough for a ceasefire to be agreed, but only if Israel does not impose further conditions.

“The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, confirms that in light of the serious and positive discussions taking place in Doha today, under the auspices of the Qatari and Egyptian mediators, reaching an agreement on a ceasefire and prisoner exchange is possible if the occupation stops adding new conditions,” the movement said in a statement.

The Israeli regime’s genocidal war on Gaza that began on October 7, 2023, has killed more than 45,000 people, most of them women and children, and injured over 100,000.

Most of the population has been driven from their homes multiple times and hundreds of thousands are at risk of famine.
