AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The ceremony to mark the 9th anniversary of the Zaria massacre, in which the Nigerian army massacred followers of Hujjat al-Islam Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), in December 2015, was held from December 12 to 14.
In his closing speech at the ceremony, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky offered condolences to all those who lost their loved ones in the incident. He stated that previous governments had ulterior motives to suppress the Islamic movement and target him personally, and had carried out similar massacres.
Sheikh Zakzaky also pointed out the Nigerian government’s blatant disregard for the law and human rights in suppressing the movement’s followers. He praised the steadfastness and resistance of the followers of the Islamic Movement despite the pressures and oppression they have endured at the hands of the government and security forces.
He referred to the claim of “banning” the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), calling it an illegal label imposed on the movement by the government. Sheikh Zakzaky stressed that “a religious movement cannot be banned legally and rationally.”
It is worth noting that the massacre in question occurred on December 12, 2015, when the Nigerian army attacked the Shiites in Zaria, killing and injuring a number of people. The attack led to the destruction of the Hussainiya Baqiyyatullah (AS) and the killing of several senior members of the Islamic Movement.
