Exam planned to selected clerics accompanying Iranian Umrah pilgrims

Registration is going to begin on Sunday for an exam to select clerics who will accompany Iranian Umrah pilgrims next year.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Registration is going to begin on Sunday for an exam to select clerics who will accompany Iranian Umrah pilgrims next year.

The registration will run for three weeks, according to the website of the Office of Leader of the Islamic Revolution’s Representative in Hajj and Pilgrimage Affairs.

Applicants should be clerics aged between 27 and 37 who are married and have Iranian citizenship.

The exam will be organized in April next year, according to the website.

Those who pass the exam will be interviewed and the selected clerics will take a training course before being dispatched to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina accompanying Umrah pilgrims.

Umrah is a pilgrimage to Mecca which Muslims can traditionally take at any time of the year, unlike Hajj pilgrimage that can be performed only in the first days of the lunar Hijri month of Dhul Hajja.

In April this year, Iran resumed sending Umrah pilgrims to Saudi Arabia after a nine-year hiatus.
