Head of Levant Scholars Union reportedly assassinated in Damascus

Sheikh Tawfiq Ramadan al-Bouti, president of the Levant Scholars Union, was reportedly assassinated in Damascus.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Sheikh Tawfiq Ramadan al-Bouti, president of the Levant Scholars Union, was reportedly assassinated in Damascus.

Unknown individuals assassinated the senior cleric in the Syrian capital on Tuesday, some social media users said, Eram News reported.

Others, including his family members, have denied the reports of his assassination, saying Sheikh al-Bouti is alive and healthy.

In addition to heading the Levant Scholars Union, Sheikh al-Bouti has been a professor of Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and Usul at the University of Damascus’ faculty of theology.

Meanwhile, there have been reports of the assassination of Hamdi Ismail Nadi, a prominent Syrian chemist.

He was reportedly assassinated in front of his home in Damascus on Tuesday.

The armed groups that are in control of Syria after toppling the government of President Bashar al-Assad have not commented on these reports.

Analysts have pointed to the involvement of the Israeli regime’s spy agency Mossad in the assassination, given its previous record.

Mossad is said to have assassinated a number of Iraqi scientists and elite figures after the fall of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s regime.
