AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Ayatollah Alireza Arafi has been re-elected as the head of Iran's seminaries during the inaugural session of the Ninth Term of the Supreme Council of Islamic Seminaries.
During the session that was held on Friday, Ayatollah Mohammad-Mahdi Shabzendedar and Ayatollah Javad Marvi were also chosen as the council's first and second secretaries, respectively, by unanimous vote.
The council members, elected for a four-year term in late November, are tasked with overarching policy decisions for seminaries, the highest Islamic educational institutions in Iran.
This term's members also include prominent scholars Ayatollahs Mohsen Araki, Mahmoud Rajabi, Mahmoud Abdollahi, and Seyyed Mohammad Gharvi, whose nominations were finalized through a rigorous selection process conducted by the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom.
The process for appointing council members aligns with Article 6 of the council's charter, involving recommendations from Qom’s seminary society and approval by the Islamic Revolution Leader and senior clerics in Qom.
