AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Militant groups have reportedly gained control of more than 40% of the western neighborhoods in Aleppo, Syria's second-largest city, according to Al Mayadeen's correspondent.
The development follows a significant offensive launched by opposition forces against the Syrian legitimate government, marking the most intense fighting in the region since 2020.
The offensive, which began on November 27, has seen opposition factions break through the country's defenses and capture key areas, including strategic locations along the M5 highway. Local sources indicate that these groups have seized control of approximately 550 square kilometers across Aleppo and Idlib provinces during the clashes.
As a result of the fighting, around 10,000 civilians have fled their homes seeking refuge in rural Idlib. The Syrian military has announced to repel some advances but acknowledges that insurgents have infiltrated several neighborhoods within Aleppo city for the first time in years.
