AhlulBayt News Agency: The Hamas Movement has mourned French lawyer Gilles Devers, a dedicated advocate for Palestinian rights, who passed away on Tuesday after a long battle with illness.
“With great sadness, we have received the news of French lawyer Gilles Devers’s passing after long suffering from health issues,” member of Hamas’s political bureau Basem Naim said in a statement on Wednesday.
On behalf of the Movement, Naim expressed sincere condolences to the departed lawyer’s family and friends, pointing out that Devers was a true supporter of the oppressed peoples, especially the Palestinian people and their just cause.
Naim affirmed that Devers’s “courageous positions,” especially after the Israeli aggression against Gaza in October 2023, would remain etched in the memory of the Palestinian people.
“Devers contributed to prosecuting Israeli leaders at international courts, accusing them of committing war crimes and genocide, before his efforts culminated with the issuance of arrest warrants against Benjamin Netanyahu and his war minister Yoav Gallant,” the Hamas official highlighted.
He stressed the importance of upholding Devers’s legacy, and urged his friends and the world’s free people to work diligently to fulfill his aspiration to see the Palestinian people enjoy their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
