AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Syria condemns Israel's blatant attacks on countries in the region and denounces the war crimes and mass genocide perpetrated by the Zionist entity, stated the Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Bassam Sabbagh.
Sabbagh, during a ministerial emergency virtual meeting of The Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations, called for the necessity of taking firm, effective, and immediate measures to stop the crimes and violations of international law and international humanitarian law by the Zionist entity.
He affirmed the necessity of bringing perpetrators of Israeli war crimes and genocide to justice and ensuring that they do not escape punishment.
Syria has reaffirmed its strong support for the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, the right to return to their homeland, the establishment of an independent state, and the end of the Israeli occupation of all Arab lands taken since June 1967, including the occupied Syrian Golan, stated Sabbagh.
He elaborated that the Israeli occupation forces intend to escalate their aggression in our region by targeting neighboring Lebanon. This coincides with their almost daily attacks on Syrian territory, which include strikes on buildings and residential neighborhoods housing headquarters, diplomatic missions, UN offices, as well as economic facilities and vital infrastructure. Furthermore, the occupying forces are deliberately targeting border crossings, roads, and bridges connecting Syria and Lebanon, which are used by hundreds of thousands of people fleeing the violence inflicted by the Israeli military.
Sabbagh also pointed out that the ongoing crimes committed by the occupation against the Palestinian people—including murder, destruction of infrastructure such as schools and hospitals, forced displacement, deliberate attacks on humanitarian personnel and journalists, and efforts to undermine the United Nations and its Secretary-General—along with the ban on UNRWA’s operations in the Palestinian territories, all constitute serious violations of international law and the principles outlined in the United Nations Charter.
