International forum on “Scientific Authority of Holy Quran” held in Istanbul

An international forum on “Scientific Authority of the Holy Quran” was held in Istanbul, Turkey.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): An international forum on “Scientific Authority of the Holy Quran” was held in Istanbul, Turkey.

The Sulaymniya Islamic Institute and Al-Bayan Institute organized the scholarly event in cooperation with the Iranian Cultural Center in the city.

Hojat-ol-Islam Muhammad Sadeq Yousefi Moqaddam, president of Iran’s Holy Quran Culture and Teachings Academy, presented at paper at the forum in which he said that when past scholars did not consider the Quran to have scientific authority, their views were not expressed out of hostility.

He said the issue of scientific authority is one related to expectations from the Quran.

The paper by Hojat-ol-Islam Morteza Qarasban, another Iranian scholar, featured methods of research about scientific authority of the Quran in Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence).

He said that the Quran, as the Holy Book of Muslims, is not only a source of spiritual and moral guidance, but also provides scientific references and important theoretical views that can be used as the main source in deriving religious rulings.

Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Hamed Alizadeh, another speaker at the forum elaborated on the views of orientalists about the relation between the Quran and history.

He said while most Muslim scholars and Quran interpreters have considered the Quran’s historical statements to be sources about not only the history of Islam but also the history of previous religions and peoples, orientalists have mostly investigated these statements as well as the Quran’s approaches and models of narration with the historical-critical method.

In another part of the forum, Hassan Abdipour presented a paper on the reasons used by those who oppose the Quran’s scientific authority in the field of legislation.

Also, Abdul Aziz Bayandar, the head of the Sulaymniya Islamic Institute, said through interpretation of the verses of the Quran from a scientific point of view, new horizons can be opened for a more profound understanding of the Holy Book.

The forum was broadcast live via Furat TV and the Sulaymniya Islamic Institute’s Instagram page.
