New Islamic Center for Spanish-Speaking Muslims set to open in Houston, US

Centro Islámico in Alief is set to host a grand opening ceremony this weekend as the center aims to provide a community space for Spanish-speaking Muslims in the area.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Centro Islámico in Alief is set to host a grand opening ceremony this weekend as the center aims to provide a community space for Spanish-speaking Muslims in the area.

Located on Brant Road under the Alief water tower, the center aims to foster a deeper understanding of the historical and cultural ties between Islam and Spanish-speaking communities, KPRC2 reported on Friday.

The event, scheduled for Saturday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony and remarks by District F Council Member Tiffani Thomas. During the event, Thomas will present a proclamation on behalf of the City of Houston, commemorating this milestone.

Other notable attendees include Assistant Chief Yasar Bashir of the Houston Police Department and international dignitaries. Latino Muslim leaders, many of whom grew up in Alief and embraced Islam later in life, are also expected to be present.

Spanish-speaking Muslims are not uncommon, especially in Houston. However, the Centro Islámico seeks to bring greater visibility to this community, offering resources and educational materials to support their spiritual journeys.

Co-Founder Jaime “Mujahid” Fletcher expressed the center’s broader mission in a statement. “The IslamInSpanish Centro Islámico represents more than a building—it’s the realization of a vision to transform lives. Though our voices have been heard on mainstream media nationally and globally, our aim has always been to see lives transformed into productive global citizens collaborating for the common good of humanity.”
