AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Islamic Association of Peru in Lima was gifted 50 copies of the Holy Quran along with its Spanish translation.
Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim presented the center with the Qurans during a visit to the Latin American country on Friday.
Anwar Ibrahim and the head of the association, Murad Hamida, held a meeting during which they discussed the development of the Muslim community in Peru.
They also talked about Malaysia’s commitment to facilitating halal certification processes and supporting Islamic education and Da’wah among the Muslim community in Peru.
The Malaysian premier’s visit to Peru, which includes his participation in the 31st APEC Economic Leaders Meeting (AELM) is expected to strengthen bilateral relations between Kuala Lumpur and Lima.
Peru, is a South American country bordered by Ecuador, Colombia and Brazil.
Peru has an estimated population of around 34 million, with nearly 10,000 Muslims.
The Muslim community in Peru is largely composed of immigrants from countries such as Lebanon and Palestine, with a small number of native Peruvians who have embraced Islam.
