AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): In a statement, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) confirmed the death of a peacekeeper in Lebanon.
UNIFIL stated late Friday that the incident resulted in the death of a French peacekeeper, with three others sustaining injuries.
Established in 1978, UNIFIL operates as a temporary force to assist in maintaining peace in the region and to verify Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon.
Since the Israeli military began its ground offensive in southern Lebanon in early October, several UNIFIL posts in the area have reportedly come under attack.
The incident underscores the growing challenges faced by international peacekeeping missions in volatile conflict zones.
"Unfortunately, one French peacekeeper died, and three others sustained light injuries in the accident," UNIFIL said
It further noted that UNIFIL medical personnel and the Lebanese Red Cross attended to the casualties on-site."On behalf of the entire UNIFIL family, Head of Mission and Force Commander Lt. Gen. Aroldo Lázaro extends his deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time," expressing "his earnest wishes for the swift and full recovery of those who were injured."
