Riyadh Summit highlights Muslim Unity in supporting Palestinian cause: Malaysian scholar

The recent Extraordinary Arab and Islamic Summit in Riyadh emphasizes a renewed commitment within the Muslim world to address the Palestinian issue and pressing global challenges, according to the Chairman of the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The recent Extraordinary Arab and Islamic Summit in Riyadh emphasizes a renewed commitment within the Muslim world to address the Palestinian issue and pressing global challenges, according to the Chairman of the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia.

Professor Mohd Faiz Abdullah suggested that this unity could position the Muslim bloc as a significant global force, Bernama reported on Friday.

Faiz noted that the summit, which included leaders from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the League of Arab States, delivered “an unequivocal condemnation of Israeli aggression” and demonstrated a collective resolve among Muslim countries to confront issues ranging from economic instability to climate change.

“This gathering was more than a symbolic display of solidarity. It highlighted a growing determination in the Muslim world to respond collectively to the global challenges we face, from conflict to climate change, with a unified and steadfast voice,” he wrote.

Faiz expressed optimism about the potential for a stronger Muslim voice on the global stage, stating, “For the first time in a while, it may seem highly possible that the Muslim world will be able to provide a steadfast and collective voice for justice and progress.”

The summit, held on November 11, also marked a significant turning point in intra-Muslim relations, with signs of rapprochement between Persian Gulf Arab states and Iran, as well as improving ties between Egypt and Turkiye. Faiz described these developments as “encouraging signs that long-standing issues can yield to diplomacy, patience, and a shared vision of co-existence.”

“Decades of mutual suspicion cannot vanish overnight, but this summit revealed a new chapter, one where countries once divided by historical grievances are starting to see the benefits of unity and cooperation,” he added.

The summit focused on condemning Israeli aggressions in Gaza and Lebanon, with participation from leaders of over 50 countries.

The discussions emphasized the urgent need to end Israeli atrocities, lift the siege on Gaza, and support the Palestinian cause. Additionally, the summit called for international efforts to provide humanitarian aid and reconstruct Gaza.
