AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A Quran recitation program was held at the mausoleum of Imam Kadhim (AS) in Kadhimiya, north of Baghdad, on Wednesday.
A number of participants and members of the panel of judges of the first Iraq International Quran Award took part in the Quranic program.
They included Ahmed Ahmed Nuaina from Egypt, Qassem Raziei, Ali Gholamazad and Mehdi Shayegh from Iran, Omar Abdul Qadir from Nigeria, Muhammad al-Mousawi from Kuwait, Hamuda bin al-Muiz from Tunisia, Muhammad Sami from Palestine and Ahmed Safi from Syria.
Addressing the event, Haidar Hassan al-Shamari, the custodian of the holy mausoleum and head of the Iraqi Shia Awqaf Department, highlighted the importance that Iraqis have always attached to the Quran and Quranic activities.
He noted that over the centuries, Iraq has introduced great Quran interpreters and Quranic scholars to the Muslim world.
He added that he Shia and Sunni Awqaf departments have played a major role in the development of Quranic activities in the Arab country.
He also commended the organization of the international competition and the Quranic centers who have contributed to the international event.
The first Iraq International Quran Award was held in the capital Baghdad with the participation of Quran reciters and memorizers from over 30 Arab and Islamic countries.
It concluded in an awarding ceremony on Thursday morning.
