AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): An astronomy expert in Oman says the first day of the next holy month of Ramadan will fall on March 1, 2025.
Sabih bin Rahman al-Saedi used astronomical calculations to determine the first day of the holy month.
He said astronomical calculations regarding the movement of the sun, the earth and the moon show that the crescent moon of Ramadan of the year 1446 Hijri will be visible in Oman and most other Arab and Muslim countries on the last day of February 2025.
He said people can see the crescent moon 30 minutes and 19 seconds after the sun sets on Friday, February 28, 2025.
Therefore, he said, the next day, March 21, will be the first day of Ramadan.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community.
Some religious scholars rely on astronomical calculations to determine the beginning of lunar months while most of them believe visual sighting of the moon should be used in this case.
