AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Hujjat al-Islam Ali Reza Bayat was named the new head of Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization.
Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyed Abbas Salehi appointed him in a decree on Saturday.
Hujjat al-Islam Bayat replaced Seyed Abbas Hosseini as the head of the organization.
He previously served as the education and research deputy of the Office of Leader’s Representative in Hajj and Pilgrimage Affairs.
The induction and valedictory ceremony will be held at the organization in Tehran on Sunday.
The Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization of Iran was founded in 1979 after the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
It is an independent state agency affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance responsible for conducting and monitoring pilgrimage trips to Saudi Arabia for Hajj and Umrah as well as pilgrimage trips to holy shrines in Iraq and Syria.
Policy making, monitoring, guidance and administration of Hajj and pilgrimage affairs as well as communication with Islamic countries and international Islamic associations on pilgrimage and making pilgrims familiar with the nature and dimensions of Hajj are among the organization’s main goals, according to its website.
