AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Indonesia’s religious affairs ministry confirmed the completion of a project for the translation of the Quran into the Cirebonese language.
The Cirebonese language is a local language of Indonesia related to Javanese and Banyumasan.
Ahmed Yani, who led the translation project, said the translation aims to promote understanding of the Quran among those speaking the language,
It will also help to preserve the language, which is a cultural symbol of the region, which includes Cirebon, a port city on the northern coast of the Indonesian island of Java, he noted.
The translation project that began in 2020 involved a team of translators, he said.
The team also included Quran experts as well as academics and experts in the Cirebonse culture, Yani added.
He went on to say that 300 copies of the translation have been published and will be distributed among religious circles and that there are plans for producing a digital version of the rendering as well.
Muhammad Isam, an Indonesian religious affairs ministry official thanked the efforts of the translation team and confirmed that one of the aims of the project was preserving the Cirebonese language.
He said it is one of the ten local languages of Indonesia that have been included in a Quranic digitization plan.
