AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Promotion of the Ashura culture and the school of Imam Hussein (AS) via the Arbaeen pilgrimage provides the best opportunity for spreading the message of martyrs, an official said.
Seyed Mohammad Reza Hashemi, the governor of Iran’s northern province of Semnan, made the remark in a ceremony held in the provincial capital of Semnan on Wednesday to honor volunteers from the province who served the Arbaeen pilgrims in August this year.
He stressed the need for expanding the Arbaeen march, which is attended by millions of pilgrims every year.
He also hoped that the culture of Ashura will be manifested in all aspects of people’s lives.
Hashemi hailed the efforts of the Arbaeen volunteers and urged them to make the most of the opportunity in the following years.
Arbaeen is a religious event observed by Shia Muslims on the fortieth day after the Day of Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the third Shia imam.
It is one of the largest annual pilgrimages in the world, with millions of Shia Muslims walking to Karbala from various cities in Iraq and neighboring countries. This year, the day of Arbaeen fell on August 25.
