AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Awqaf minister of Egypt gifted copies of the country’s Mus’haf to the Saint Petersburg Mosque in Russia.
Osama al-Azhari visited the mosque, known as the Blue Mosque, after participating in an international religious conference titled “role of spiritual and moral values in traditional religions and the development of interreligious and intercultural dialogue in the modern world”.
Attended by religious leaders and scholars from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Iraq, Morocco, Yemen, Gambia, Syria, Somalia, Uganda, Chad, France, Italy and other countries, the conference discussed issues related to the interaction of world religions, among other topics.
During the visit, Al-Azhari led the noon prayers at the mosque and gifted it copies of Egypt’s National Mus’haf.
The Saint Petersburg Mosque, built 110 years ago, has been described by Russian President Vladimir Putin as one of the most beautiful mosques in the world.
Its dome in 39 meters tall and it has a 49-meter-tall minaret.
Al-Azhari also paid a visit to the tomb of Mohamed Ayad al-Tantawi, a senior Al-Azhar scholar.
The Egyptian Awqaf minister noted that Tantawi had been sent by Al-Azhar to Saint Petersburg on a 70-day mission but he chose to remain in the city for 21 years and died and was buried there.
