40 European countries take part in Germany’s int’l Quran contest

An international Quran competition held in Hamburg, Germany, last week, was attended by 140 contenders from 40 European countries.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): An international Quran competition held in Hamburg, Germany, last week, was attended by 140 contenders from 40 European countries.

The World Islamic Charity Society (OCII) organized the competition from October 9 to 11, according to KUNA.

Abdullah al-Sanan, head of the organizing committee, said the participants competed in three categories featuring memorization of the entire Quran, memorization of half of the Quran and memorization of five Juzes (parts) of the Holy Book.

He noted that the Al-Noor Mosque in Hamburg hosted the three-day Quranic event.

Badr al-Samit, director of the OCII, said the society organized the competition based on a strategic outlook aimed at promoting the moderate Islamic culture.

He said that over the past five years, the society has implemented various programs and projects to serve the Quran.

They include the establishment and equipment of 18 Quran memorization center s in 6 countries with a capacity to train more than 10,700 male and female memorizers, he added.

He went on to say that the OCII has also distributed over 84,000 copies of the Quran, including some copies of the Holy Book in Braille, in 6 countries.
