Thousands of Iraqi youths ready for fight against Zionist regime: Top cleric

The Friday prayer leader of Baghdad condemned the Israeli threat to assassinate top Shia cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, saying thousands of Iraqi youth are ready to fight the Zionist regime and foil its plots.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Friday prayer leader of Baghdad condemned the Israeli threat to assassinate top Shia cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, saying thousands of Iraqi youth are ready to fight the Zionist regime and foil its plots.

Ayatollah Sayed Yaseen al-Mousawi said Ayatollah Sistani plays a major role in thwarting the enemies’ schemes and that is why they are after ending such an influential role.

He said the Zionist regime has been plotting against regional countries for years.

It has committed many acts of terrorism in Lebanon, including the assassination of Hezbollah Secretary General Sayed Hassan Nasrallah, he said, adding that the regime is also trying to draw the Islamic Republic of Iran into an all-out war.

Al-Mousawi said the Zionist regime’s prime minister has acknowledged that Israel’s goal is not Palestine and Lebanon alone but it wants to have all regional countries from Palestine to Iraq under its control.

Given that Ayatollah Sistani has prevented the Israeli regime from reaching its goals in Iraq, Tel Aviv has put his name on its assassination list, the cleric stated.

The enemies are trying to bring back the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorism to the region in order to undermine the countries of the axis of resistance, he warned.

“We are the children of Imam Hussein (AS) and will not give in (to such plots). Thousands of Iraqi youths have been asking me these days when the time will come to directly fight the occupiers (of Palestine),” he further said.

Earlier this week, the Israeli right-wing Channel 14 published a photo of Ayatollah Sistani as part of a list of potential assassination targets, drawing the anger of the Iraqi people and officials, with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani saying that it represents “an offense to the feelings of Muslims worldwide,” and that it is overstepping boundaries.
