AhlulBayt News Agency: The Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) said the recent offensive move against Iraqi top Shia cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani by Israeli media shows the true nature of the Zionist regime and its main backer, the US.
Earlier this week, the Israeli right-wing Channel 14 published a photo of Ayatollah Sistani as part of a list of potential assassination targets, drawing the anger of the Iraqi people and officials, with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani saying that it represents “an offense to the feelings of Muslims worldwide,” and that it is overstepping boundaries.
In a statement on Saturday, ICRO condemned the provocative move, saying the Zionist and American enemies’ animosity against Shia authority in Iraq has been evident since the 2003 invasion of the Arabic country.
This enmity reached its highpoint after Ayatollah Sistani issued a Fatwa (religious edict) mobilizing people against the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) Takfiri.
This Fatwa played an effective role in destroying the so-called caliphate of Daesh and the cronies of Washington and Tel Aviv in the region brought about the victory of the resistance front in curbing the perilous plot hatched by the ultra-regional enemies in the region, the statement added.
It noted that the Iraqi Shia source of emulation has kept supporting the nations of Palestine and Lebanon since the start of war on the Gaza Strip and later Lebanon, and this has intensified the Zionists’ enmity against Ayatollah Sistani.
Undoubtedly, the Shia authority in Iraq has become a source of stability in the region and the Muslim world, raising awareness among regional nations in confrontation with the expansionist and occupation-oriented strategies of the Israeli regime and the West, it went on to say.
