UN official: 400,000 people trapped in northern Gaza

The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, said on Wednesday that more than 400,000 people are trapped in the northern Gaza Strip, amid the latest Israeli offensive.

Ahlulbayt News Agency: The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, said on Wednesday that more than 400,000 people are trapped in the northern Gaza Strip, amid the latest Israeli offensive.

Lazzarini added, on X, that “no end to hell in northern Gaza. At least 400,000 people are trapped in the area. Recent evacuation orders from Israeli occupation forces are forcing people to flee “again and again,” especially from Jabalia camp, noting that many are refusing because they know very well that there is no safe place in Gaza.

He explained that UNRWA shelters are being forced to shut, some for the first time since the Israeli war began on the Gaza Strip a year ago.

He pointed out that hunger is spreading and deepening again in the northern Gaza Strip with almost no basic supplies available.

He pointed out that “children are, as ever, the first and most to suffer,” saying that the recent military operation also threatens the implementation of the second phase of the polio vaccination campaign.

With full US support, Israel has been committing genocide in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, leaving more than 139,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and thousands missing, amid massive destruction and famine that has claimed the lives of dozens of children, in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.

In absolute disregard of the international community, the Israeli occupation army continues its massacres in Gaza, ignoring the UN Security Council resolution to stop the aggression immediately, and the orders of the International Court of Justice to take measures to prevent acts of genocide.
