AhlulBayt News Agency: Lebanon’s Civil Defense service says five of its members have been killed in an Israeli airstrike on the southern city of Tyre, while five other people lost their lives in separate air raids by the occupying regime in the same area.
The emergency medical service said in a statement that its workers were killed as the Israeli aggression targeted their center in Derdghaya town of the Tyre district on Wednesday.
The statement said the victims were “on duty” at the center and ready to respond to emergency calls when the strike hit.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health condemned the attack in a post on its X social media account, saying Israel was guilty of targeting “rescue and ambulance crews (and) disregarding international laws, norms and humanitarian conventions.”
The ministry also reported that an Israeli airstrike on the town of Wardaniyeh in the same district claimed the lives of five people and injured 12 others, falling short of specifying the severity of their injuries.
The ministry added that the “remains of other victims are being identified through DNA testing.”
The World Health Organization (WHO) has on multiple occasions warned against the Israeli killing of paramedics or civil workers in Lebanon, which has been under the regime’s attacks since last October.
At least 100 medical staffers have been killed in Lebanon in the past year, the majority of them in the past two weeks alone.
An Israeli force killed, one injured in south
Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation said one of its reservist forces was killed in fire exchanges with the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah in the country's south on Wednesday.
The Israeli military said the reservist, a member of the Alon Brigade’s 5030th Battalion, was killed and another reservist was “seriously injured” during the same incident.
The reservist is claimed to be the 12th Israeli soldier killed since Israel launched a ground offensive against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon on September 30, according to the regime's media reports, but the Lebanese resistance group puts the number of the Israeli military’s fatalities at 25.
Hezbollah has been fighting Israel since October 8, 2023, a day after the regime launched a brutal aggression against the Palestinian territory of Gaza.
More than 2,000 people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Lebanon in the past year, while the attacks have also displaced around one million people, including some 400,000 who have fled to neighboring Syria.
The aggression comes as part of the regime’s October 7, 2023-present war on Gaza, which has so far claimed the lives of more than 42,000 people and wounded at least 97,700 others, most of them women and children.
Most of Gaza’s 2.3 million people have since been displaced and humanitarian conditions have deteriorated sharply.
