AhlulBayt News Agency: A senior Hamas official says last year’s anti-Israel operation by the Palestinian resistance group took the occupying regime back to “square zero”.
Khaled Mashal, head of Hamas’s political bureau abroad, made the remarks during a televised speech on Monday, marking the first anniversary of the historic attack, dubbed Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, against the usurping entity.
“Al-Aqsa Flood returned the occupation to square zero and threatened its existence,” he said.
Mashal also emphasized that the operation was “a natural response to the occupation and its accelerating plans for settlement, siege and aggression against Al-Aqsa” Mosque compound in the occupied al-Quds.
Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, he added, was a dark stain in the history of the Zionist regime and heralded its demise in the near future.
Israel waged a genocidal onslaught on Gaza after Hamas carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Flood in retaliation for Israel’s intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.
However, a year into the offensive, the Tel Aviv regime has failed to achieve its declared objectives of eliminating Hamas and freeing captives held in Gaza, despite killing nearly 42,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children.
While bogged down in the Gaza quagmire, Israel has recently mounted its acts of terror and aggression in Lebanon.
The Hamas official said the occupying regime opened the front against Lebanon after it failed to meet its goals in Gaza.
Israel is fully defeated in the Gaza war that tarnished the image of the Zionist regime across the world, he added.
Mashal further appreciated the sacrifices made by the Gazans’ brothers in Lebanon, Iran, Yemen and Iraq in support of the Palestinian resistance and nation.
He also said Israel is threatening Egypt and Jordan despite long-standing peace agreements with both Arab countries.
“The enemy wants everyone in the region to be subject to him and he does this even with countries that do not fight him,” he said, adding that Israel “attacks Arab and Islamic national security everywhere.”
