Araghchi: Iran fully will continue supporting Syria, resistance to counter Israel

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Tehran will continue to provide full support for Syria and the resistance front to counter Israel’s occupation and warmongering in the region.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Tehran will continue to provide full support for Syria and the resistance front to counter Israel’s occupation and warmongering in the region.

Araghchi made the remarks in a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Saturday in Syria where he is on the second leg of his regional tour after paying an “important” visit to Lebanon a day earlier.

“This [Iran’s] principled stance is in line with protecting regional peace and stability and supporting national security of the countries in the region,” he said.

The Syrian president, for his part, hailed Iran’s strong stance in support of the oppressed Palestinian people and the right to self-defense as well as resistance against the Zionist enemy’s occupation and aggression.

Assad said the international community must make all-out efforts to end Israel’s criminal adventurism.

Syria's official news agency SANA quoted the Syrian president as saying that resistance against all forms of occupation, aggression and mass killing is a legitimate right.

He commended Iran’s “strong” response to Israel’s repeated attacks on regional nations and violation of sovereignty of the countries in the region.

He emphasized that Iran’s military response on Tuesday night gave a lesson to the Zionist entity that the axis of resistance is capable of deterring the enemy and thwarting its plans, and that it will remain strong and steadfast thanks to the will and solidarity of its peoples.

On Tuesday, the Islamic Republic launched hundreds of missiles towards the Israeli entity’s military, and espionage and intelligence bases all over the occupied territories as part of Operation True Promise II.

The operation came in response to the regime’s assassinations of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political bureau of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, Secretary General of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and Brigadier General Abbas Nilforushan, the Deputy Commander for Operations of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC).

Addressing a public sermon at the weekly Friday prayers to a huge number of worshipers in Tehran, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei hailed “the brilliant work of our armed forces” in launching the missile strike on the Tel Aviv area, saying it was “completely legal and legitimate”.

The Syrian president added that Israel has no option but to stop the crimes of killing and shedding the blood of innocent people and to restore their legitimate rights.

He emphasized that Iran and Syria have “strategic” relations which play an important role in confronting the challenges and dangers facing the region, foremost of which is the continued Israeli occupation of Arab lands and the regime’s daily killing of civilians in Lebanon, Palestine and Syria.

Assad and Araghchi discussed ways to stop Israel’s aggression on Lebanon and the need to provide support to the country in the face of large displacement caused by the Israeli savage attacks.

Israel’s supporters must force regime to stop crimes: Araghchi

In a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Bassam Sabbagh on Saturday, Araghchi called on Muslim and Arab countries in the region to step up their diplomatic and political efforts to force Israel’s supporters to stop its crimes.

The Iranian foreign minister denounced the inaction of the Security Council on Israel’s illegal and criminal acts due to the full support of the United States and Britain for the regime and their obstruction of the Council's ability to make appropriate decisions.

The Syrian foreign minister, for his part, stressed the importance of increasing coordination between Tehran and Damascus in global organizations to counter unilateralism and violation of international law.

The top Iranian and Syrian diplomats discussed ways to promote mutual relations in various political, economic and security sectors and called for complete implementation of the agreements previously signed between the two countries.

Araghchi and Sabbagh also exchanged views about the continuation of Israel’s genocidal war against the people of Palestine and its brutal attacks on Lebanon and urged the international community to heed such crimes and put an immediate end to the regime’s warmongering.

Iran resolute on promoting all-out ties with Syria: Araghchi

In a meeting with Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi Jalali, the top Iranian diplomat said Tehran is determined to promote relations with Damascus in all areas, particularly in the economic sector.

The Syrian prime minister, for his part, praised Iran’s support for the brave resistance of Palestine, Lebanon and Syria in the face of Israel’s acts of aggression and Takfiri terrorism.

He expressed hope that all regional countries will understand that the continuation of Israel’s warmongering policies poses a serious threat to them and make great efforts to thwart the regime’s evil acts.

The Syrian premier and Iranian foreign minister also discussed the implementation of bilateral agreements and stressed the importance of making use of the capacities of the two countries' private sectors to boost economic, industrial and trade cooperation.

Israel launched the war on Gaza on October 7 after Palestinian resistance groups carried out a surprise retaliatory operation into the occupied territories.

So far during the military onslaught, the regime has killed at least 41,825 Gazans. Another 96,910 Palestinians have sustained injuries as well.

Israel has also been targeting Lebanon since October 2023, when it launched the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.

The Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah has been responding to the aggression with numerous retaliatory operations, targeting the occupied Palestinian territories.

The movement has vowed to keep up its operations against Israel as long as the Israeli regime continues its Gaza war.

The Israeli regime has so far refrained from accepting widespread international calls to declare a ceasefire and continues its savage assaults by air, land, and sea in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon.
