Ahlulbayt News Agency: Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri revealed to Asharq al-Awsat newspaper on Wednesday that he is carrying out “serious efforts” with international parties, including the U.S., to halt the ongoing Israeli escalation against Lebanon.
“The next 24 hours will be decisive as to the success or failure of these efforts in reaching political solutions to the crisis,” Berri added.
The Speaker said there are intensive contacts in “full coordination” with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, who is currently in New York, adding that influential countries are taking part in these efforts.
Berri hoped for the success of the efforts, saying the alternative would be “war and further tragedies.”
Reiterating that Lebanon “will hold onto its principles,” Berri added, in response to a question, that the proposed solution would not separate Lebanon from Gaza’s front.
“This exit is based on what was reached in the past with U.S. presidential envoy Amos Hochstein, before and after the war in Gaza,” Berri said.
He added that he believes that “this is the only available and feasible solution,” declining to reveal the details of the initiative.
