Iran FM calls on EU to adopt unified position against Israel’s aggression

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called on the European Union (EU) to adopt a unified position to stop Israel’s aggression in the West Asia region.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called on the European Union (EU) to adopt a unified position to stop Israel’s aggression in the West Asia region.

Araghchi held a meeting with the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, on the sidelines of the 2024 United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.

“Useful talks with EU High Rep @JosepBorrellF on a range of issues of mutual interest/concern—including nuclear talks, dangerous situation in the Middle East caused by Israeli aggression against Lebanon, Ukraine, and need to avoid double standard on human rights,” Araghchi said in a post on X.

The Iranian foreign minister said he “urged the EU to stop certain members from supporting Israeli regime and instead adopt unified European position to stop Israel escalation in the region.”

On Monday, the Israeli regime’s military carried out over 330 raids in more than 117 Lebanese towns and cities, particularly in the south and Beqaa regions. At least 569 people -- including 50 children, and 94 women -- were killed while 5,000 were wounded.

In Gaza, Israel has massacred over 41,460 Palestinians, displacing around 1.9 million people – nine in 10 – since October 2023.

On Tuesday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned world leaders that Lebanon was on the brink.

While addressing the 79th UN General Assembly in New York, Guterres said the world leaders “should all be alarmed by the escalation. Lebanon is at the brink.”

He warned against “the possibility of transforming Lebanon (into) another Gaza.”

“Gaza is a nonstop nightmare that threatens to take the entire region with it. Look no further than Lebanon,” Guterres said.
