AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): In an address to the UN General Assembly, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the global body for its failure to intervene in Gaza, saying that “not only children, but also the UN system is dying in Gaza.”
Erdogan described the Palestinian territory as "the world’s largest children’s and women’s cemetery." His speech comes amid the ongoing Israeli offensive, which Erdogan accused of deliberately targeting civilians.
“Not only children, but also the UN system is dying in Gaza,” Erdogan declared, highlighting the moral collapse of international institutions. He further questioned the inaction of human rights organizations, asking, “Aren't those in Gaza and the West Bank human beings?”
Erdogan's criticism extended to the UN Security Council, which he called out for not halting the conflict. Citing his familiar phrase, “the world is bigger than five,” the Turkish leader pointed to the imbalance of power among the council’s five permanent members, particularly Israel’s closest ally, the United States.
“UN Security Council, what are you waiting for to prevent the genocide in Gaza and to say 'stop' to this cruelty, this barbarism?” he demanded.
Erdogan didn’t stop at Gaza. He also expressed solidarity with Lebanon, condemning Israel’s military strikes on civilian targets which have killed 558 people and injured 1835 others. He accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of dragging the entire West Asia into war for political gain, even likening Netanyahu’s tactics to those of Adolf Hitler during World War II.
“Just as Hitler was stopped by the alliance of humanity 70 years ago, Netanyahu and his murder network must be stopped by the ‘alliance of humanity,’” Erdogan declared, calling on world leaders to take a stand.
In his call for an immediate ceasefire, Erdogan referenced the death toll in Gaza, where, according to local reports, Israeli airstrikes have claimed over 41,000 lives since the start of its genocide in Gaza.
