Egyptian Christian pastor hands out free sweets on Prophet Muhammad birth

A Christian pastor in Egypt distributed free sweets among people on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi, marking the birthday anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A Christian pastor in Egypt distributed free sweets among people on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi, marking the birthday anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Yuanis Adib, a Coptic Christian pastor, said he sought to promote solidarity and friendship between the country’s Christians and Muslims, Ad-Dustur website reported.

He handed out sweets among people, especially construction workers and dustmen in the city of Hurghada in the Red Sea Governorate of Egypt.

He said Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday is an auspicious occasion and an opportunity for Egyptian Christians to participate in their Muslim brothers’ celebrations.

“Just as Muslims take part in Coptic Christian celebrations, we, Christians attend Islamic celebrations to convey the message of friendship and fraternity,” he said.

The people of Egypt, both Christian and Muslim, are keen to enhance friendship and brotherly bonds on religious occasions, Adib added.

During the holy month of Ramadan earlier this year, the same pastor was praised for helping to distribute Iftar meals to the needy.

Egypt is a country in North Africa with a population of around 104 million. Some 90 percent of the country’s people are Muslim.

Egyptian Copts are the biggest Christian community in the Arab world. Estimates of their numbers vary, but generally range between 4.7 and 7.1 million.
