AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The president of Turkey’s Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) underscored the importance of teaching the Quran and genuine Islamic values to children.
Ali Erbas said the Holy Quran and Islamic values such as compassion, respect and truthfulness play a major role in raising a generation that is vigilant and committed to Islamic ethics.
He made the remarks at the opening ceremony of Quran memorization courses in the city of Duzce in northwestern Turkey, ilkha.com website reported.
“In these courses, we emphasize avoiding Haram (forbidden) acts like lying and stress the importance of truthfulness. We also try to teach our children the Quran and the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) Seerah,” he stated.
Erbas also attended ceremonies to inaugurate a number of Quran memorization centers in the city.
He said that Diyanet has made a lot of efforts to promote Quran memorization across Turkey, noting that some 1.5 million children aged 4-6 have taken the Quran memorization courses held by Diyanet over the past ten years.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Erbas referred to the Milad-un-Nabi celebrations, marking the birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), and said this year, the theme of the celebrations in mosques, Islamic schools and Islamic centers will be “Holy Prophet (PBUH) and Human Character”.
