AhlulBayt News Agency: Grand Imam of Egypt’s Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb and EU foreign policy Chief Josep Borrell met in Cairo to discuss the situation in Palestine and Gaza.
In the meeting, Sheikh al-Tayeb called for an end to the Israeli regime’s brutal attacks on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, Shuruq News reported.
He said words are not capable of conveying the brutality of the aggression that the Palestinian people are facing today.
“Thorough history, we have not witnessed such a unilateral war and savagery,” he said, adding that people in the Gaza Strip are facing an unprecedented atrocity.
It is no bravery for an armed force to attack innocent refugees and massacre them, he deplored.
Such savagery and crime cannot be seen even in the world of animals, he stated.
“Is there a solution to this historical tragedy in Gaza? Who can stop this brutal aggression? Is it possible to put an end to it only through silence or condemning it in words?” he wondered.
Al-Tayeb warned that if the critical situation in the Middle East is not resolved, the world would move toward a main danger and calamity whose dimensions cannot be predicted.
Borrell, for his part, said the European Union is making efforts for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and stopping the massacre of Palestinians.
He also hailed the role of Al-Azhar chief in promoting the culture of peace and interfaith dialogue.
