AhlulBayt News Agency: The Astan of the holy shrine of Imam Ali (AS) in Najaf, Iraq, put the number of pilgrims visiting the mausoleum on the 28th day of the lunar Hijri month of Safar at around 5 million.
The 28th of Safar, which fell on Monday, September 2 this year, marks the demise anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hassan Mujtaba (AS).
Haidar Rahim, head of the Astan’s information dissemination center, said some 5 million pilgrims and mourners visited the holy shrine on Monday.
He said the Astan and other institutions and organizations made all-out efforts to facilitate the arrival of the pilgrims and serve them.
Meanwhile, the governor of Najaf, Yousef Makki kanawi, hailed the success of the security plan in place for the 28th of Safar.
Also, the supreme security committee said that the number of pilgrims this year exceeded that of previous years.
Despite the large number of pilgrims, there were no security incidents reported during the mourning rituals held for the demise anniversary of the Prophet (PBUH) and martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hassan (AS), it added.
